"Non running 1963 Norton Electra or a 1962 650 Norton Sports Special (maybe)" Tue Mar-10-09 07:53 AM by littlejayB1993
I seem to have what i believe to be a old 1963 Norton Electra or a 1962 650 Norton Sports Special but I may be wrong, sitting in the shed at my workplace. Now, they've said i could have a go at restoring it but as its such an old bike i dont want to go destroying it.
The problem is that it does kick over but coughs and then just dies. Ive changed all the fluids and also drained and refilled the fuel tank to no avail. Just wanted to know what could be wrong. I have worked on engines in general before, but never on a old bike engine.x(
Im going on what the Bikles listed above look like in relation to the one I have seen. (It was in a dark shed behind a load of old mowers so i couldnt see it well)

There are obviously many things it could be and without seeing what strength the spark is or the condition of the plug after it has fired i will only be guessing! but you could try the following, clean out the carburator as any old gas would have left residue and a varnish like coating behind and this may be limiting any fuel entering the combustion chamber.
secondly check the plugs and change as this may be the reason it was left in the shed !! now check the spark with the plugs out you should be getting a nice blue spark .
and lastly check the ignition timing to that recommended by the manual, regards Allan
