Just a few short questions. I'm considering installing a set of rearset footpegs on my 74 Commando. I was wondering if I could gather some comments, pro or con, regarding them. When I sit on my bike and place my right leg in the approximate position it seems that the kickstarter going to be somewhat of an obstacle, has anyone else found that to be so? Second question, are all Commando kickstart levers the same, maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but, it seems that in some photos the kickstart lever appears less offset?

The typical rear set arrangment has the shift pedal arcing above the kicker, and down to a point somewhere near your toe. I have found that pretty much any of the comercially available units are a compromise at best. If you position the shift lever where it's comfortable to operate, the kicker will rub your shin. If you try to move the kicker foward to clear your shin, then your toe position is too high to be comfortable. The Hyde version makes you place the kicker reclined way back benieth the foot peg. It solves the shin problem, but cuts your kick stroke down to nearly useless. I ended up hack sawing the shift lever off of the pivot of an old set I'd been cussing at for years, and bending up my own, with a nicer arc. It allows the toe to be positioned comfortably, and the kick lever to miss my shin. If you'd like a picture of my set up, email me [email protected] . People talk highly of the original Dunstall units, but you have to find one, and nobody makes a good reproduction of it that I've seen. As for the actual kick lever, there were a couple of diferent types. The MkIII is completely different from the earlier models. The difference in bends made be due to modification by the owners as well.

Lots of ways. I went with the Norvil production set for reveresed shifter. You than buy a Atlas kick start lever and a off set shifter lever. Every thing than clears and works well.
