hey all. I have a 850 norton and to make a long story somewhat short here goes.
Rebuilt carbs and few other things and it ran fine, very good infact. Came home after a rather hot day of riding and noticed smoke from the exhaust on one side. so over winter put new rings in it.
All back together now but problem, when i start it with the choke on it starts ok but when i take choke off slowly it runs worse and worse. when full off wont idle and have to keep it reved up to run at all.also getting some misfireing from right side.
Have had this bike for 25 years and it has never behaved like this. before would put choke on, kick 2/3 times, start fine and turn choke off, ride away, no problem.
Any help or ideas? Have cleaned and checked carbs 2 times now and double checked valve adj. All seems fine there.
Bike has electronic ign and am going back out to look at that now but never touched it when putting rings in

If it starts and runs OK with the choke on but not off it is running too lean. Usually will spit back from the carb when lean. First make sure your timing is correct,(backfire on right side?) then check the carbs again. Sounds like it is starving for fuel. Are you using the 32mm Amals? If so check the float level, main jet for open, small hole in bowl side of carb for open as it sucks fuel from the bowl, through that small hole, to the idle/air needle, and out the small holes in the carb on either side of slide.
