Hi I am Terry a "Grumpy Old Git" with a mental age hovering around 14. When I built my Triton I took the easy option and used new Metal Profile forks and 4LS Suzuki GT750 hubs and brakes. That left me with a set of long Roadholders and a 2LS wheel. As the forks need new stanchions I would like to update them to either short or Manx pattern. What parts do I need to replace or modify to do this? Thanks Terry

Hello Terry; I'm Digger a "wheezin' gezzer". I was just out surfin' the net this am and ran across your query about Long Roadholders. I’ll try to help. But I’m not exactly sure what front end you have now. Metal Profile made a lot of forks and Long Roadholders date back to plunger frames if memory serves. I will dig in to the library this morning and check on that. If you indeed have ‘Long’ forks then you will need to replace the stanchions with a different length, if there are any being made these days, and perhaps the dampers too. If on the other hand you have Roadholders as fitted to an Atlas, which have the longest of the three stanchion lengths fitted to various models, you will only have to replace the tubes. Actually the staunchion and the internal damper body go together as a set. The damper body determines the ride height not the staunchion. Commando ride higher because of the damper body. The longer fork tubes allow the fork bushes to ride at the correct position for safe travel within the fork lower leg. So you have a featherbed front end you want to do what? with it??
