"Norton Starter"

I am fixing up a '75 Electric Start Norton and the starter is
not very good. It is a 4 brush type and I had it rebuilt.
Has anyone found an alternate to successfully modify to fit (A
newer Ducati looks like a close fit)?:-)

I installed Dave Comeau's starter on my Mk3 at the beginning of summer and tossed the original unit. Dave's starter is shorter, lighter, more powerful, and looks great. His price is about the same as an inefficient re-build. To save yourself some future headaches, replace the sprag unit with an upgraded one, and CAREFULLY mic the two parts that the sprag lies between. Old Britts describes this process in detail in their Technical Notes. If these parts are out of spec, the sprag will freewheel and eventually fail.
